Energy Efficiency Award 2015 goes to India
February 2016. Bharat Forge is specialized in forming technology and received the award in honor of their demand-oriented and optimized control of refrigeration processes. At their site in Pune, energy consumption for cooling was reduced by almost one third, that is about 223000 kw hours p.a. through the use of sensors and automatically controlled pumps and valves. This project shows most excellently how comparatively simple measures and a little investment can result in a serious energy and cost savings.
The awards were issued by the German Energy Agency (dena) under the stewardship of the German Federal Minister for Economic Affairs and Energy, Sigmar Gabriel, for outstanding energy efficiency projects in industry and commerce. "The winners of the Energy Efficiency Award show that investments in energy efficiency pay off; returns-on-investment of more than 20% are a clear indication of this", said Andreas Kuhlmann, Director of dena, on occasion of the 6th dena Energy Efficiency Congress in Berlin where the awards were presented.
The awards focus on cost-effective energy efficiency measures that can be easily transferred to other organizations. The number of applicants also demonstrates the international relevance of energy efficiency solutions: of a total of 619 companies that have applied for this award in the past, 141 are located in countries other than Germany.
